It’s official – Tom Holland is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man. The news has just broke as we type this, and we’re pretty psyched about this brilliant piece of casting!

Holland is best known to cinemagoers as the break-out star of 2013’s emotional The Impossible. He’s also had roles in How I Live Now (2013) and Locke (2014), as well as appearing in BBC One’s Wolf Hall. He made his career debut on stage in Billy Elliot the Musical.

Holland will make his first appearance as Peter Parker, AKA the Amazing Spider-Man, in next year’s superhero slugfest Captain America: Civil War. He’ll then be making his solo film debut in 2017’s as-yet-untitled Spider-Man movie, co-produced by Marvel Studios and Sony, and directed by Cop Car director Jon Watts.

Anyone who’s seen him in The Impossible will recognize how perfect he is for the role of a young, fresh-faced Peter Parker. He can play the quirky, goofier side of Spidey, including the trademark quipping, as well as the more heroic, emotionally challenging aspects of the character. He also looks the part too already!
