Not long now! Rogue One is a-coming! Excitement aside for a moment, we must remember that this is technically a prequel. We’ve all been stung once before and it would be foolish to expect Rogue One to be excellent. Who am I kidding? I’m pumped, we’re all pumped. Here is a list of 5 things we want to see in Star Wars: Rogue One:
#1 – NO JEDIS!
Please keep the commitment. We don’t want the Rogues saved at the last second by some lightsaber wielding overpowered Jedi. Make this a war film first, that so happens to be set in the Star Wars universe.
#2 – Connection to Star Wars VII
This is a great opportunity to introduce key players that may play a bigger role in Star Wars VII. It can also bridge the gap between the connections of the new cast and how their relatives, or people they may know, where around at the time of the events in Rogue One.
However, not too of a connection that those who haven’t seen will feel lost in the upcoming sequel. Allow the universe to be richer for seeing it, whilst at the same time being coherent without.
#3 – Epic Warfare
Get Michael Bay on the phone! Get all the best at making war to have fun. We haven’t had a major war film since the Saving Private Ryan that shows the bloodshed. That’s what we want. We want to see the lives that were lost fighting for the rebel cause. The difference in strategy between the Empire and the Rebels.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want non-stop action either. I want the quieter moments explored also. The planning, the arguments and the hope. The hope that they may just make it out alive.
#4 – Rebel Structure
The Empire has always been understood better from the movies when it comes to structure. We know the Emperor is in charge, Darth Vader just below him and a commanding officer on a similar level to Darth Vader.
What we want is the Rebel’s structure. We want to see the leaders and fighters. We want to see how an order trickles down the Rebel chain of command and who are the key players. How does the Rebellion recruit new soldiers? And what happens if one disobeys?
#5 – Darth Vader FSU
Darth Vader’s appearance must be epic. I want to feel the destruction that this one man is capable of. The look on the soldier’s faces when he appears on the battlefield.
Those who have played DICE’s Battlefront will know the feeling when Darth Vader appears for the other team. The sense of dread and swift change in tactics when he appears. I want this reflected in the movies.
There you have it. Those are the five things we want to see in the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One. What would you like to see in Rogue One? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
