This week in Rumour Patrol we discuss rumours surrounding Spider-Man and Iron Man teaming up in Spider-Man’s début movie, Wolverine and Deadpool teaming up, Shazam coming sooner than we had thought and a Boyhood sequel.
In Rumour Patrol we look at the biggest rumours from the previous seven days and comment on whether we doubt or hope they are true.
This is a rumour as neither Marvel, Sony or Drew Goddard have commented on whether this is legit. Time will tell, but I’m confident that Drew is the choice all parties involved want. Drew Goddard has worked on projects with Joss Whedon (director of The Avengers) and was already signed on to write the Sinister Six Spider-Man spinoff.
The second part of this report claims that the Spider-Man film will also feature Iron Man post civil war looking for new recruits. Spider-Man manages to get on to Iron Man’s radar and they battle it out leading to Spider-Man proving himself capable of joining the Avengers.
This also sounds interesting and I hope it is true. Robert Downey Jr’s contract seems to be very negotiable at the moment with his character making an appearance with Captain America in the third instalment of his franchise. Crossovers are a great idea and it is what fans want.
Also mentioned in the report was that Spider-Man will not be an origin storyline and they are hoping to hire a young unknown actor to play Spider-Man who will grow into the role with a multi-film contract. Yes, and yes! If Marvel plays their cards right we could end up with a truly diverse new set of Avengers with differences in sex, race and age.
This prediction is coming from the lead actress from the franchise, Rooney Mara. It has been 4 years since the previous film and with no sign of the studio beginning filming they may leave the project as is.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was an okay film, which annoyingly got really good toward the end of the movie. It did leave you interested in seeing more, but it isn’t the sequel fans have been screaming for.
The last time Wolverine and Deadpool met in a live-action movie was in X-Men Origins and the less said about that, the better. Let’s give it another go and give both actors the chance to play their characters in the way they want.
Also, we might get to see the Wolverine in a 15 or 18 rated film if Fox are ballsy enough to give Deadpool the mature rating it deserves.
The 12 year project may get extended for another 12 years. Suggestion for name: Manhood?
This is a big ask for a director and was astonishing that he managed to do it once, let alone that he may do it again. My biggest concern is, will people care in 12 years for a sequel for a the type of film this will be that didn’t win an Oscar?
Save your time Linklater, focus on some other mad idea. And didn’t Harry Potter do it better? 10 years and 8 films.
It’s from the Rock’s mouth! This must be true!
I don’t see how the Rock can be so confident when they haven’t even announced who is playing Shazam. The issue I have with DC and rumours surrounding it, is that DC movie-verse have not proven themselves. They only have one film that is set in the universe which did moderately good.
Let’s wait until Batman V Superman and see how fans react to the characters introduced in that, then make decisions like this to pull films earlier.
That’s it for this week. What do you guys think? Are you excited for any of these rumours?
