No one has asked for it, but we’re doing it anyway! If in the unlikely event, that the Guardians of the Galaxy had to be rebooted/recast we’ve got a list of suggestions as to who can play each character. We have already re-casted the Avengers , now it’s time to recast the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Everybody’s favourite talking tree, we have Groot. To cast this role, we needed somebody that had a deep voice and an added bonus is if they can act. Although Groot only says one line, that’s where the challenge is. Vin Diesel has done an excellent job and probably is the best actor to play that role already. However, our pick to play Groot is:
Will Arnett – The voice of Lego Batman and BoJack Horseman. With his deep booming voice and experience working in voiceovers, we think that Will Arnett would smash a role like Groot and be able to add flavour to saying one line.
Everyone’s favourite talking racoon, Rocket Raccoon. For this role, we needed somebody that would have the voice that directly opposed the small innocent look of a speaking rodent. We also wanted to avoid an imitation of Ben Cooper’s portrayal. Here are our two options:
Ron Pearlman – Not the first voice you think when you see a racoon, Hellboy himself could take this role and deliver.
Jason Statham – Add another layer of confusion to a talking racoon and have him speak with a cockney accent also. This would provide endless laughs and an interesting juxtaposition of voice and body.
Everyone’s favourite talking blue and red alien, we have Drax. For this role, being physically intimidating was necessary. Also, continuing the recurring joke that Drax doesn’t understand metaphors and is too literal, we need somebody able to deliver straight lines like that. This is who we think:
Manu Bennett – Mostly known as the guy who plays Deathstroke in the Arrow TV series, Manu Bennett has the size and the charm to pull this role off.
Everbody’s favourite talking green alien, we have Gamora. For this role, Todd and I came to a disagreement as to who we wanted to play this role. Our two choices are:
Sofia Boutella – Todd’s choice, is the metal legged assassin from Kingsman. She has the look and tough demeanour, however, I challenged whether she has the acting chops.
Emily Blunt – That’s what led me to this suggestion. The girl wanted for every role, however, has taken none. I think she would be perfect for this role, and any role, simply based on her performance in The Edge of Tomorrow.
Everybody’s favourite kidnapped 80s child, we have Peter Quill. The tough part to this role is that we needed somebody most wouldn’t expect, however, they must have a comedy background and be able to deliver heartfelt scenes. That is what lead to our choice:
Aaron Paul – Known mainly from Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul has also dipped into comedy in the form of BoJack Horseman. He doesn’t have the typical lead actor look to him, which may work in his favour. He has a relatable and everyday-man feel to him that could work for the lead role in Guardians of the Galaxy.
