It was recently mentioned by one of the Russo Brothers (directors of Captain America: Civil War) that their upcoming Marvel film would have not one, not two, but three post credit scenes. Here at Third Act we love speculation, so we’re going to try to guess which films or characters will get a tease at the end of Captain America: Civil War.
Put Money on it
Doctor Strange – This is both the next film to be released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a film that probably needs a bit of a push. By the time Civil War comes out, the film will be well into post production, so there will definitely be some material to draw from even if they don’t film something specifically.
Spider-man – This will be the first time we see Spider-man inside the MCU, and you can bet that when Marvel and Sony made their deal to both use the character, there was a little clause in there about post-credit scenes. Plus the stand alone Spider-man film will be around a year away, and a lot of people will probably want a bit more Peter Parker before leaving the cinema.
Civil War – This is a strange one, but let me explain. Most of the Marvel films that have had more than one post credit scene have one that’s worked as a throw back to the film you’ve just seen. The Avengers had the shawarma scene, Thor: The Dark World had Thor returning to Earth, and Winter Soldier had Bucky going to the Captain America museum. It makes sense that at least one of these three scene will be in reference to the film we’ve just seen.
These Could Happen
Black Panther – Much like with Spider-man, this will be the first time we see Black Panther in the MCU, and he’s set to have a much larger role. It’s set for release at the beginning of 2018, and we’ve also already seen another character that’s likely to appear in that film, Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Claw, so there are plenty of things they could show.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – Another film set for release around a year after Civil War, Guardians Vol. 2 is also well into production. The characters, costumes and sets are all ready to go, so it wouldn’t take much effort to give audiences a little sneak peek at the sequel to a film that far exceeded expectations.
Thor: Ragnarok – The final release of 2017, this is also the film where we’re going to see the only two Avengers that (supposedly) aren’t in Civil War, Thor and The Hulk. With Thor becoming a less popular character than before thanks to the under performance of The Dark World, his upcoming third film could do with a little push.
Infinity War – The reason this is unlikely is that Civil War is so grounded that a Thanos or Infinity Gauntlet tease would feel a bit unnatural at the end of the film. Well, at least according to the Russo Brothers in the same interview that they said there were going to be three post credit scenes…
Captain Marvel – This is a film that’s not only a long way off, but it’s a role that’s still (supposedly) yet to be cast. To have Captain Marvel turn up here would not only be a surprise, but would be a strange move in terms of marketing.
The Inhumans – Once again this film has a lot of casting yet to be done, and is still around three or four years away (it’s coming out after Infinity War part 2), so there are plenty more opportunities to tease this one.
Which films or characters do you think we’ll see teased in the post credit scenes of Civil War? Do you agree with any of my choices? Share any thoughts in the comments.
