Welcome to our new segment, Box Office Predictions. In Box Office Predictions we analyse the current films at UK theatres and attempt to estimate their box office weekend results.

New Releases

  • Divergent Series: Insurgent
  • The Gunman
  • Home
  • The Tale of Princess Kaguya
  • The Voices
  • Wild Card

Let’s get to the predictions!

Weekend Box Office: 20-22 MARCH 2015

Home to perform better than Insurgent? (Box Office Predictions)

Home (Estimate: £2,000,000)

This film made over this amount in its preview weekend, I can imagine it doing nearly the same amount for its actual release. Who would have thought an alien and Rihanna could work?

Divergent Series: Insurgent (Estimate: £1,400,000)

Although the first Divergent got around £2,000,000 in its opening weekend I don’t see Insurgent doing as well. Although my opinions on it are quite extreme, I think the general audience weren’t left begging for more after Divergent.

The Gunman (Estimate: £700,000)

This film could mean a career turn for Sean Penn, a Liam Neeson path. Considering Run All Night got a weekend total of £823,000 I can see The Gunman doing comparable. Even if this film does well, Sean Penn will still look angry as hell.

The Second Best Marigold Hotel (Estimate: £600,000)

Although it will be out for its fourth week, I think the golden oldies and the silver surfers will still be making their way in to see this film.

Wild Card (Estimate: £400,000)

Okay, we have Jason Statham and Sofia Vergara in a gritty-action packed movie. I don’t see that pulling in viewers I’m afraid. For the action fans wanting to see something this weekend, with the choice of this and The Gunman I know where they’ll be going.

In Summary

  1. Home (£2,000,000)
  2. Insurgent (£1,400,000)
  3. The Gunman (£700,000)
  4. The Second Best Marigold Hotel(£600,000)
  5. Wild Card(£400,000)
