Yes, for sure, I think [Black] Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away…sometimes we do that. Doctor Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we’re focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019.
The time has certainly come, to get more screen time for some of the supporting characters. I thought it would be interesting to see people’s opinions on who they think should get the next solo Marvel film.
Put Money on it
Black Widow – As previously mentioned, this one is as close to confirmed as it can be. Although with no set release date, this is a high probability. Not only has Scarlett Johansson gained popularity as an actress over the passing years, but so has her character after having solid screen time in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.
The Hulk – Hang on a sec, hasn’t he already had his own solo films? Well, yes. But has Mark Ruffalo? The Mark Ruffalo (Huffalo?) has quickly became a fan favourite and there are still major storylines that haven’t yet been explored for The Hulk. #WorldWarHulk
Hawkeye – We’ve suggested in the past for Hawkeye to have his own Netflix series instead of a movie adventure. However, I’m growing more to the idea of having him co-lead a film with Black Widow. Perhaps we can finally find out what happened in Budapest.
These Could Happen
Winter Soldier – Now, we all know that in the comics Bucky Barnes takes up the mantle of Captain America for a time. Can we expect this for the film versions? Perhaps a reality post-Infinity Wars? Opinions on Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of The Winter Soldier have been positive over his three appearances across the Captain America trilogy. Having a Winter Soldier film that leads up to him becoming Captain America would be a welcomed addition.
Scarlet Witch – Possibly the most powerful Avenger is deserving of her own movie. We can get a chance to learn more about her powers as currently they’ve best been described as “weird”. If given a dedicated movie we can have her face bigger challenges that maybe the Avengers would simply get in the way with normally.
Falcon – Similar to The Winter Soldier, Falcon, in the comics, also becomes Captain America. With some dedicated time set to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon we can grow to understand what makes him stand out differently than Steve Rogers. Also, all the cool technology he uses would be awesome to see.
Loki – Arguably the best Marvel villain, certainly the longest running. Would Marvel be willing to spice things up a bit and dedicate a film to the villain. However, I can hear some people saying Loki already had three solo movies: Thor, Thor: The Dark World and The Avengers. #LokiTheDarkWorld
Vision – Another ultra-powered Avenger, similar to Scarlet Witch, we could see tackle bigger problems in the Marvel cinematic world. Perhaps a duo film with Scarlet Witch would be better to explore Vision’s character and expand on the romance that has been set up by the two of them already.
War Machine – Always the side-kick and never the hero. Or not? Could we see War Machine step out of Iron Man’s shadow? War Machine’s motivations have typically been to serve his country and has mostly sided with what is best for his government. Perhaps this could be challenged in a solo endeavour? Or, probably more controversial in today’s climate, it could be celebrated.
There you have it. Who do you think should get the next solo adventure under the Marvel banner? Share your comments below and be sure to vote in our poll.
