So with the announcement of Dan Stevens and Luke Evans joining Emma Watson in the live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast., I am going to make a few suggestions of who I believe should play the supporting characters.
Lumiere – Jean Dujardin
I think that Jean Dujardin is the perfect choice to play the suave Candelabra. He has that confidence, and from his work in The Artist, you know that he will be able to exaggerate his performance just like Lumiere.
Cogsworth – Josh Gad/ James Corden
Cogsworth is quite a nervous character, but he does stand up against the more confident characters. I think that both Josh Gad and James Corden are able to portray this awkward nervousness but also the pomposity that Cogsworth has.
Mrs Potts – Emma Thompson
I know it is rumoured that Emma Thompson is in talks regarding the character, but if Angela Lansbury can’t reprise the role, I can’t think of anyone better for the part. She has that warmth, but also the no-nonsense trait that you’ll need to go up against the Beast.
Chip– Mackenzie Foy
When thinking of an actor to play the role of Chip, I was unsure of who would do a good job in this role. Chip is an innocent but strong character and I can really see Mackenzie Foy playing this role and I would like to see a girl playing this character.
Maurice – John Goodman
Eccentric but also a loving father I think John Goodman will be great at playing this character. He has that warmth, but also can portray the absent-mindedness of Maurice.
Lefou – Jack Black
Lefou is the comic relief in the film and is often the butt of the joke. I think Jack Black is great at playing the comic character and would be able to pull off Lefou’s simple mindedness and loyalty to Gaston.
Do you agree with my choices? Let me know who you would like to see play these characters in the comments below.
