This post is part of the Marvel's Phase 3 series.

Age of Ultron has been and gone, you’ve seen Ant-Man, and let’s face it, Marvel’s Phase 2 was awesome, but what’s next? In this series we’re going to take a look at what we currently know about each of the films in Marvel’s Phase 3, discussing what we know from the comics, the already existing films, and of course a bit of speculation. So let’s get right into it, discussing everything we know about Doctor Strange.

All About Marvel’s Doctor Strange

Overview

We got a glimpse into the world of magic with Scarlet Witch in Age of Ultron, and now Doctor Strange is going to open that world right up. Combining ancient mysticism with dimension hopping, this film is going to show us something we’ve never seen in a superhero film before.

In the comics

Doctor Stephen Strange was an arrogant, but brilliant neurosurgeon, who after a terrible car accident lost the dexterity that made him so good at his job. After doing some soul-searching, he discovers a being known as ‘The Ancient One’, who trains him in the art of mysticism. He soon becomes known as ‘The Sorcerer Supreme’, and is one of the most powerful magic users in the universe.

Who’s in it?

Fanboy favourite Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the title character, and he will be joined by Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, a role she’s yet to decide if she will play as male or female. Also rumoured to be on board are Rachel McAdams, presumably as the love interest, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.

Scott Derrickson has signed on to direct, who is probably best known for directing horror films Sinister and Deliver us From Evil.

What to expect

To put it simply, dimension hopping madness. He’s going to be travelling through crazy worlds, fighting monsters and demons, which all means Scott Derrickson can hopefully bring some genuine scares. Also expect some brilliant acting, with three of the four cast members that are currently attached having at least been nominated for Oscars.
