Age of Ultron has been and gone, you’ve seen Ant-Man, and let’s face it, Marvel’s Phase 2 was awesome, but what’s next? In this series we’re going to take a look at what we currently know about each of the films in Marvel’s Phase 3, discussing what we know from the comics, the already existing films, and of course a bit of speculation. So let’s get right into it, discussing everything we know about Marvel’s Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.
This is the climax of everything Marvel has been working towards. Thanos, the biggest baddie in the Marvel universe (well, that Marvel studios have the rights to) is finally going to ‘do it himself’. Lots of people are going to die, lots of things are going to be destroyed, and the MCU will look very different after this film.
In the comics
Infinity War isn’t strictly coming from one story, but there are a few things we know they’re going to include. As already mentioned, Thanos is going to be the main baddie, and he’s going to be wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, the most powerful weapon the Marvel Universe (again, most powerful that Marvel Studios have the rights to). The Gauntlet itself isn’t exactly powerful, although it is a big heavy glove, so it would hurt if he slapped you, but it’s power comes from the infinity gems. We’ve already seen a number of these gems in the films, and we can expect to see them all by the time this film comes out. It’s designed to hold all six of the gems, and when combined the wearer basically has power over reality.
The reason Thanos goes on a killing spree across the galaxy is that he falls in love with lady death, who is basically the grim reaper. In an attempt to ‘court’ her, he wipes out half of the universe, but it’s not enough, so he just carries on killing. I would expect this to be left out of the film.
Who’s in it?
Everybody. Well, it’s not confirmed but this is the big one, so expect to see (deep breath in) Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Vision, Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Nick Fury, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, some of the Inhumans, and a load of other smaller characters from each of the individual franchises, such as Winter Soldier, The Wasp, Lady Sif, Heimdall and the Warriors Three, and many, many more that I’m sure I’m forgetting.
Also, Thanos is going to be the bad guy! That’s right, the purple smiler who sits in a floating chair and wears a fancy glove is finally going to get his turn. Expect him to have a huge army of cannon fodder. I mean, highly skilled soldiers…
What to expect
I can’t say this enough, this is going to be one of the biggest films we’ve ever seen, and certainly the biggest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s so big in fact that it’s been split into two films. The action is going to have hundreds of characters super powering each other out of existence, including multiple main characters. Thanos is going to destroy entire galaxies, the entire universe is going to be at stake, we are (hopefully) going to see some of the crazier, more out there cosmic characters from the Marvel universe.
If the first Avengers is Bruce Banner, Infinity War is The Hulk.
Which upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film are you most looking forward to? And don’t forget to check out the rest of our series on Marvel’s Phase 3.
