People seem to be down on Marvel’s upcoming film Ant-Man. It’s not getting a lot of coverage, and a lot of people who aren’t big film fans barely know it exists. Here at Third Act Film, we want to change that, so here are 5 reasons we’re looking forward to seeing Ant-Man.
1 – Paul Rudd
I love Paul Rudd. Why wouldn’t you? He’s one of the funniest actors working today, and in my opinion is very underrated. He’s not been the main attraction for many films before this, but he’s shown just how funny he can be many times. On top of that, he’s clearly been working out like a mad dog on steroids, so he really looks the part of a superhero. I see no reason why he can’t be as good as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.
2 – Hope for Van Dyne
Another character I’m looking forward to seeing is Hope van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly. In the comics, Janet van Dyne is the real name of superhero The Wasp, a character that’s been a part of the Avengers line up many times. Evangeline Lilly has shown before that she’s more than capable of playing action based characters like this, and she will no doubt be a great addition to this film.
3 – The little things
Ant-Man’s power is that he can shrink down to the size of an ant. This really is something we haven’t seen before in an action film (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids doesn’t count), and if done right, it will be a completely unique viewing experience. We’ve already seen in the trailers that this is being fully explored, and I can’t wait to see what else the film has in store for us.
4 – The big world
Marvel have built a wonderful universe, filled with not just great individual films, but films that tie together to increase the viewing experience. This is the last film before Captain America: Civil War, which is going to be a game changing film within that universe, and there are no doubt going to be some seeds planted here for the bigger fans to get excited about.
5 – New newness
This is the first time since Captain America: The First Avenger that we’ve had a brand new title character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, excluding Guardians of the Galaxy. The reason I’m not counting that is because, even though it does take place in the same universe, those characters aren’t going to be interacting with the rest of the MCU any time soon. Eventually they more than likely will cross paths, but as for Ant-Man, we’ll be seeing him again in less than a years time in Captain America: Civil War. Of course we have seen new heroes in the last few films, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Falcon etc, but a new title character? That’s an exciting prospect.
What are you most looking forward to about Ant-Man? Or perhaps you’re not looking forward to it? Either way, share your thoughts in the comments.
