We’re now only a few months away from the release of the 24th installment in the Bond franchise, Spectre. This will be the fourth time Daniel Craig will play the character, so to celebrate so here are 20 thing you didn’t know about the Daniel Craig Bond films, starting with Casino Royale, and leading right up to the unreleased Spectre.
1 – An aging franchise
Daniel Craig was born in 1968, meaning he’s the first actor to play James Bond who wasn’t born when the first Bond film, Dr. No, was released, in 1962.
2 – No smoke without fire
Daniel Craig quit smoking when he was cast in Casino Royale, despite the fact that the very first time you see Bond (once again in Dr. No) he’s smoking.
3 – Give me Moore
Former Bond actor Roger Moore liked Casino Royale so much that he bought it on DVD! Not enough for a Blu-Ray though.
4 – BAFTA recognition
This was the first time any actor portraying Bond was nominated for a BAFTA.
5 – China make a difference
It was also the first film to be legally released in China.
6 – Definitely Shaken
On to the one everybody loves now, Quantum of Solace, which was the first time Bond was actually shown as being drunk, despite the fact that he’s clearly had an alcohol problem since the 1960’s.
7 – Casino Royale 2
It’s also the first time a Bond film has been a direct sequel to the previous instalment, although the writer’s strike that was happening at the time was partly to thank for this.
8 – It’s all 4 the chase
This film has has a car chase, a boat chase, a plane chase, and a foot chase just for good measure.
9 – Just duet
The film’s title theme, Another Way to die, was the first time a Bond song was sung by two artists, Jack White and Alicia Keys.
10 – Falling short
It’s also the shortest Bond film released to date, although some people would say that’s a good thing.
11 – Book ahead
12 – A Dench role
Judi Dench has more screen time in this film alone that Desmond Llewelyn had in 17 films playing Q, which makes her M the character to have the most screen time in the franchise, other than any of the actors playing Bond himself.
13 – Oscar Recognition
Casino Royale might have seen Craig be nominated for a BAFTA, but Skyfall far surpassed that, being nominated for 5 academy awards, winning two, one for sound editing, and the other for the much coveted Best Original Song.
14 – Thanks a billion
It’s currently the only Bond film to make more than a billion dollars worldwide.
15 – F-irst time for everything
This is the first time the F-word has been used in a Bond film, and it’s said by M!
16 – No expense spared
As for the upcoming film Spectre, it’s budget is reportedly somewhere between $300 and $350 million, which is around $100 million more than the next biggest budget in the franchise, which was for Quantum of Solace.
17 – Not such a bad guy
Both Gary Oldman and Kevin Spacey were reportedly approached to play the villain in the film, but both turned it down, so now we’re stuck with two-time academy award winner Christoph Waltz. I guess we’ll have to make do.
18 – Craig the fourth
This will be the fourth time Daniel Craig has played James Bond, which means he will have played the role the same amount of times as Pierce Brosnan, making them joint third in the list of number of times playing the character.
19 – Bond the sixth
20 – We missed you
Finally, this is the first time Daniel Craig has been in a film for three years, since the last Bond film, Skyfall.
