This week sees the release of The Transporter Refueled, a film not many people seem to be excited about. Even so, this is a franchise I’ve got a lot of enjoyment out of in the past, and while the talent in front of the camera hasn’t returned, the talent behind the camera has, so I’m willing to give it a chance. So to mark the release of The Transporter Refueled, here are 10 things you didn’t know about the Transporter franchise.

1 – Jason Stunt-tham

Not only an extremely likeable actor, Jason Statham is also a complete bad-ass, who did almost all of his own stunts in all three of the films that he’s starred in.

2 – No Monkeying Around

The first Transporter features a picture of Statham as a child, holding a toy monkey. I always thought he was crafted in a lab using secret government tech, but there you go.

3 – Suited and Booted

The first film in the franchise is the only instalment that features Frank in any outfit other than his classic suit. And, you know, no clothes.

4 – Part 2

The sequel to The Transporter, ingeniously entitled The Transporter 2 was only made due to strong DVD sales. Remember those?

5 – Career Choices

This film also features singer / actress Kate Nauta, who in one scene dances to one of her own songs, so let’s spread some of that CHAPPiE anger around.

The third film in the franchise is directed by Olivier Megaton, who went on to direct Taken 2 and Taken 3. Luc Besson has written all three of these, so they must be really good friends with Megaton to keep giving him work.

7 – All Lies!

One of the poster for the third film featured the female lead (Natalya Rudakova) holding a gun, something that doesn’t happen in the film. This was also her acting début, and before this she was a hairdresser.

8 – Replaced by the Original

The Transporter Refueled will be the first (and probably last) time character Frank Martin has been played by Ed Skrein. To date, he’s most famous for playing Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones, although he left the show to pursue a film career. Let’s see how that works out for him.

9 – Fushion

The fighting style in Refueled is a mixture of Israeli martial fighting style Krav Maga, and Filipino martial arts, two countries that have literally no other connection.

10 – Like Father Like Son

This film features actor Ray Stevenson as Frank Martin senior, unsurprisingly the father of Frank Martin, even though many people would rather see him playing the lead. This isn’t really a fact, it’s just how I, and everybody else feels.
