Eddie Redmayne is back after his Oscar-winning performance in The Theory of Everything. As if you didn’t cry enough in that film, this is the emotional story of Einar Wegener, one of the first people to undergo gender reassignment surgery. It’s also directed by Tom Hooper, director of the cry-tastic Les Misérables. What I’m trying to say is, you might cry in this film.

2) Joy 1/01

If you fancy something a little more light-hearted, Joy is the story of… Joy (played by Jennifer Lawrence), a woman who becomes the founder and head of a giant family business. Directed by Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle’s David O. Russell, and features his regular cast members Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

3) The Hateful Eight 8/01

The latest offering from writer / director Quentin TaratinoThe Hateful Eight promises more of his usual fantastic dialogue and hyper-violence, in a western setting. This film has a great cast, and reportedly a 180 minute plus run time, so make sure you’re ready for that if you choose to see this one!

4) Creed 15/01

With fantastic early reviews and even Oscar buzz, this Rocky spin-off sees Sylvester Stallone passing the mantle to Michael B. Jordan, who plays Adonis, son of Apollo Creed. Some people might roll their eyes at a this film, but anyone who gives it a chance will probably be surprised.

5) Room 15/01

One of this years critical darlings, Room will more than likely be brought up frequently come awards season. This film is the story of a 5-year-old, who discovers the world for the first time after bring locked in a room from birth.

6) The 5th Wave 22/01

The latest young adult book-to-film adaptation sees Chloë Grace Moretz fighting off aliens. With a great cast and a decent trailer, this one might be better than other offerings in the genre.

7) The Big Short 22/01

If you enjoyed The Wolf of Wall Street, you’ll probably want to check out The Big ShortThis film follows four finance analysts who predict the financial crash of the mid 2000’s, and manage to get rich by playing it in their favour. It stars Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.

8) Ride Along 2 22/01

The sequel nobody was expecting, Ride Along 2 sees Ice Cube and Kevin Heart reunite for another buddy cop comedy. Reception to the original was mixed, but I enjoyed it, so this one might have some good laughs too.

9) Dirty Grandpa 29/01

Robert De Niro and Zac Efron are both capable of being funny, so putting them together might just work. De Niro is the title character (sort of), so hopefully he won’t be afraid to do one or two embarrassing things for our entertainment.

10) Spotlight 29/01

Having already received rave reviews in America, Spotlight is set to be one of this year’s big awards winners. This film tracks the real life events of when the Boston Globe uncovered the child molestation scandal within the Catholic Church, so perhaps this one won’t be for everyone.
